Plant Utilities and Cranes Electrical Technician
A large industrial manufacturing facility is seeking a Plant Utilities and Cranes Electrical Technician to support the electrical reliability of plant utilities, overhead cranes, and hoists. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, inspections, and continuous improvement to ensure safe and reliable operation of critical equipment.
The ideal candidate has strong electrical and controls experience, including PLCs, drives, and medium-voltage systems, and can work independently in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain electrical reliability for plant utilities, overhead cranes, and hoists
Participate in daily meetings to review and resolve utilities and crane-related issues
Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting to support equipment uptime
Support contractors as needed, including on-call assistance when required
Develop and improve PMs and SOPs for utilities and crane equipment
Set up, calibrate, and configure sensors and transmitters (temperature, flow, pressure, speed, distance, etc.)
Replace and configure drives or PLCs, including downloading parameters and making basic programming changes
Conduct daily and regulatory crane inspections and coordinate periodic load testing
Read and interpret electrical/mechanical diagrams, schematics, and manuals
Use SAP and E-Merge/Sphera systems to manage work orders and maintain critical spare parts
Participate in root cause analysis and reliability meetings to resolve recurring issues
Perform additional maintenance-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Technical certification in Electricity, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, or a related electrical field
Minimum of 3 years of crane experience in an industrial setting
Minimum of 3 years of experience with medium-voltage transformers, switchgear, and protection relays
Strong background in AC/DC motor control systems and solid-state controls
Proficiency with 480V, 3-phase motor control systems
Experience with PLCs and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams
Basic mechanical knowledge of gear reducers, hydraulics, and pneumatics
Strong safety mindset and ability to work in a team-oriented environment
Excellent communication skills and ability to build working relationships across teams
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
Frequent walking and working in industrial environments
Work at heights and around cranes and elevated equipment
Exposure to hot and cold conditions
Ability to safely perform physical tasks required for inspections and maintenance
