Position Summary
The Environmental and Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental and safety processes that promote a safe work environment while maintaining compliance with local, state and federal health regulations. This position is visible on the manufacturing floor, interfacing with employees concerning environmental, health and safety, assessing hazards, and implementing practices to reduce those hazards. He or She will use a proactive and collaborative approach when working with operations, management, and other support groups to create a healthy and safe work environment.
Essential Job Functions
Develop, deliver, and track environmental, safety and health training programs for all associates.
Assist in managing the facility’s waste and recycling program to support environmental compliance and sustainability goals.
Work with cross-functional teams to maintain environmental and safety programs.
Facilitate safety and environmental training orientations.
Maintain complete and clear documentations for environmental and safety operations for reference purposes.
Identify and evaluate areas of improvements to reduce safety incidents and environmental impacts.
Responsible for safety communication boards and to communicate relevant safety information to all associates via written, verbal, public-speaking or interpersonal communications.
Gather and track equipment inspection lists and ensure that all corrective action measures are being applied.
Communicate and enforce established safety practices to ensure the use of applicable personal protective equipment and/or other safety gear.
Participate in plant or facility accidents/incidents and near miss investigations.
Assist with developing and implementing a culture toward a zero-incident environment.
Assist with emergency preparedness planning and response activities.
Verify compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards through frequent inspections set out by an inspection schedule.
Manage information signs, barriers, and other visual tools/techniques to bring awareness to potential/actual safety and environmental hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
Facilitate and lead the company’s activities to promote employee involvement within the safety culture and environmental initiatives.
Develop monthly safety and environmental toolbox talks and newsletters.
Responsible to ensure all applicable safety and environmental equipment inspections are completed and documented.
Order and maintain facility safety and environmental inventory including personal protective equipment, first aid supplies, spill supplies, and equipment etc.
Responsible for managing the department ordering and invoice system to ensure all invoices verified and paid according to ILA rules.
Conduct daily Gemba walks to identify and address workplace safety and environmental issues, tracking, and communicating findings with stakeholders to ensure timely correction.
Perform all required preventative maintenance work orders for the environmental and safety department to ensure all equipment and work areas in operations correctly.
Serve as backup for the Environmental Technician as needed, assisting with environmental inspections, compliance documentation, and other related tasks.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or related field
ISO 45001 Auditor Certification a plus
OSHA 30 Certification
RCRA training and DOT certification a plus.
Or
Experience
1 – 3 Years of Industrial Safety and/or Environmental Compliance Experience
ISO 14001 Experience a plus
Job Knowledge/Special Skills/Abilities
Experience with providing on-site safety and environmental training; perform job safety analysis; incident investigations.
Advanced written & verbal communication skills. Able to communicate professionally to internal and external shareholders, sometimes through training.
Knowledge of hazardous waste management regulations.
Experience with 6s implementation measures.
Meticulous attention to detail. Self-starter with good time management skills.
Exceptional organization and record keeping skills.
Able to work in a group setting or independently while meeting deadlines.
Able to process information logically, understand document preparation practices, and understand and follow ethical business practices.
Detailed knowledge of federal, state, and local policies and regulations, related to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Strong written & verbal communication skills.
High proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to analyze data, comprehends both abstract and concrete concepts, and translates technical information so that it can be communicated to non-technical personnel.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds, climb ladders and stairs; walk, bend and stoop. Will be required to wear PPE.
Must be able to respond to off-hour emergencies.
