Director of Accounting
COMPANY: Our client is a third-generation family-owned business. They have been in fuel distribution since 1945 with several different businesses including Convenience Stores, Carwash, and Grocery.
They are also deeply involved in their local community.
ROLE: The Director of Accounting will guide and assist in re-engineering and streamlining current policies and procedures. You will take a leadership role in the operations and results of the accounting team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
As the Director of Accounting, you will help provide the best products and services to their communities. You will manage a 3 person accounting team and will report directly to the CFO.
You will specifically be responsible for:
Learning the functions of the accounting team and gaining a deep understanding of each role.
Establishing internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
Analyzing current processes and identifying strategic changes for optimal efficiencies.
General Ledger activities including monthly closing, financial statement review, account analysis, management reports and variance analysis.
Reviewing and approve Journal Entries, Reconciliations, and other account level information.
Monitor, supervise, and oversee the control of cash transactions and AP disbursements within the company.
Overseeing preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.
Overseeing the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
Tax planning throughout the fiscal year; files annual corporate tax return.
Auditing accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audit.
Presenting recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
At least 5 years’ experience in accounting- retail preferred.
Great Plains knowledge a plus.
Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting
Highly proficient in excel and accounting software
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
