Category Manager-Food Service

This position is responsible for increasing the profitability for the food service and dispensed beverage categories. We are looking for someone who has previous convenience store knowledge with an entrepreneurial spirit. Within this position, you will develop the overall strategy for assigned categories to increase sales and reduce waste. The perfect candidate is someone that is flexible, can handle fast paced change and able to “get their hands dirty” with whatever is asked of them. Additional categories may be added on to help support the merchandising manager. This is a position in which 60% of time is spent in the field supporting operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strong understanding of the food service and dispensed beverage business.
Develop and execute sales plans in alignment with the category strategy.
Works with merchandising manager to ensure promotions and POP are developed for the sales plan period.
Create, analyze, and present performance metrics to help make business decisions about future product development strategy.
Work collaboratively with operations to develop programs that supports the regionality of the chain.
Introduces new products and programs to drives sales within the category.
Lead new-item verification and develop communication plans to drive engagement from operations.
Manages key vendor relationships including but not limited to responding to vendor requests, contract negotiations, pricing discrepancies, and troubleshooting any issues.
Review and negotiate costs to ensure full margin potential.
Visit stores on a weekly basis with work with managers on executing their food service and beverage categories.
Analyze waste on a weekly basis for category and provides direction on how to rectify any issues.
Coach managers on food service execution and understanding key metrics that create profitability.
Lead the execution of product sampling with consumers as well as in-house product reviews.
Research competitors and suggest appropriate pricing and promotional activities.
